FREEPORT Incumbent Mayor Jodi Miller is being challenged by veteran politician Ronnie Bush in the April 6 election for mayor.
Miller, a former city alderwoman, is finishing her first term as mayor. She is touting her administration s ability to fund infrastructure improvements without raising taxes, address pension liability costs and the removal of dozens of blighted structures.
Before occupying the mayors office, she had already made a name for herself in the community as a successful businesswoman and 17-year owner the popular Union Dairy ice cream parlor.
Bush, also a former city alderman, is a Stephenson County Board member. He has a long history of community activism that includes creation of a neighborhood watch group, funding a police-officer-occupied home in the city s 3rd Ward, and promoting a back-to-school celebration, which entails equipping the city s children with necessary supplies for the first day of school.
