FREEPORT — Incumbent Mayor Jodi Miller is being challenged by veteran politician Ronnie Bush in the April 6 election for mayor.
Miller, a former city alderwoman, is finishing her first term as mayor. She is touting her administration's ability to fund infrastructure improvements without raising taxes, address pension liability costs and the removal of dozens of blighted structures.
Before occupying the mayors office, she had already made a name for herself in the community as a successful businesswoman and 17-year owner the popular Union Dairy ice cream parlor.
Bush, also a former city alderman, is a Stephenson County Board member. He has a long history of community activism that includes creation of a neighborhood watch group, funding a police-officer-occupied home in the city's 3rd Ward, and promoting a back-to-school celebration, which entails equipping the city's children with necessary supplies for the first day of school.
