The hope is that community organizations such as churches and senior citizen centers will help identify those older folks who are nutritionally deprived.
There are also many nonprofits who offer support for those needs with free food distributions.
But they are always in need of assistance themselves, with money and food donations.
Here are six of the many giving groups that are worthy of support.
Religious Community Services
The Community Kitchen, 919 George St., New Bern. provides hot meals, available to go from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., Monday through Saturday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The Food Pantry is dispensing groceries daily. Clients needing assistance are asked to call RCS at 633-2767. Requests will be taken by phone and instructions given on how the client should proceed. For other requests from Client Services, call 633-2767.
Sulphur seniors age 60 and over are in for a treat
On July 6 beginning at 9 a.m., itâs the Sixth Annual Christmas in July with a Twist. This yearâs theme is âSenior Ole Time Brunchâ.
The event will be held at West Cal Event Center located at 401 Arena Rd.
Brad Brinkley and Company Band will provide entertainment. Bingo prizes will be provided by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffâs offices elderly services.
Volunteers include Life Christian Academy, Our Lady School Art Class, Sulphur High Football team and Honor Society and Sulphur Sunrise Rotary.
