To lead this session, we have called on one of the most distinguished military historians that were very fortunate to have right up the road here at the university of new orleans, dr. Allan millett. His career has not only filled he hasokshelves, but also fill the ranks of military history phds by overseeing the most doctoral candidates of anyone in the country. Its hard not to find one of his students around. To talk about one of the most important battles in june of 1944 and the war as a whole, its my pleasure to call on dr. Not quite sure what other expenses outside this occurred or manifested that werent covered by that, but we largely provided for the outfitting of the facility of virtue of a separate pool of funds. You want to hear about the drop in normandy . Airfield infrom an britain. We had been briefed and we knew exactly what conditions were in normandy and where the drop zones were located. Weetime during the fight theived aircraft fire from right side of the planes. We were not aware that some of the midChannel Islands were occupied by the germans. That confused us because we thought we were approaching normandy. Cause we to the turned north parallel to the coast of normandy. The jump master was watching the door. As soon as they could see landfall he ordered the troops to stand up and hook up. The plate was hit plane was hit by aircraft fire. The right side was knocked out. Troopers had the hooked their signs up. Everybody in. Of course there was a mad. Cramble to get to the door the plane was listing to the right and nobody could climb the incline to get to the door.
