BENNINGTON — Bennington College and the Bennington Museum apply for and receive grants on a regular basis. But not all of them bear the name of one of the most notable artists who ever called Bennington home.
The college and the museum announced Tuesday they are among the inaugural recipients of the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative, launched by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation to support energy-efficiency and clean-energy use and address climate change action.
Frankenthaler (1928-2011), a second-generation abstract expressionist artist and pioneer in the Color Fields movement, was a 1949 graduate of Bennington and is among the school’s most famous alumni. ....

After remaining in the dark for over a year, Bridgeport’s music hall, the Acoustic, is looking at the future in a new light.
For almost three decades, the Acoustic featured a variety of local musicians in the jam band and acoustic communities on an almost daily basis. Artists like John Mayer, Big Something and Goose got their starts at the Acoustic.
Located at 2926 Fairfield Ave. in Bridgeport’s Black Rock neighborhood, it is just one of the countless music venues that had to shut its doors last year amid the pandemic. Despite community fundraising efforts to keep the venue open, the Acoustic announced its indefinite closure in May. Its last live show was in March 2020. ....

“RULE Gallery is pleased to present
Color Fields, Wilma Fiori’s inaugural solo exhibition in Texas. The show will be on view from February 3 through March 20, 2021, at our Marfa location, 204 E San Antonio St, Marfa TX, 79843. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm. With public and staff safety in mind, all visitors must wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines during their time in the gallery.
This exhibition highlights the work of Wilma Fiori (1929-2019), an enduring member of the Denver arts community and a key figure in the regional exploration of abstraction. Fiori, like many artists, focused her initial practice on representational work during her years in the 1950s at Loretto Heights College, now Regis University in Denver. After completing her BFA, Fiori found another passion in the study of anthropology, where she closely analyzed the Denver Art Museum’s Indigenous Arts of North America Collection. The ....
