Troops from iraq, military aircraft are making a return. American cargo planes escorted by fighter jets dropped humanitarian aid to tens of thousands of iraqi religious minorities. The president says its an effort to prevent a genocide. Its happening in the sinjar mountains in the northwestern area of iraq. They were forced into the area as the takeover of iraqi resources continues to expand. Tara mergener reports from washington. Reporter president obama authorized the targeted air strikes on iraq but he was quick to say they that does not mean war. Reporter the militant group known as isis is said to be advancing toward the city of erbil where american diplomats and civilians are serving.
