About 100 firefighters fought the flames and one firefighter was taken to the hospital with injuries. Firefighters face several challenges, including high winds and temperatures in the 90s. Firefighters used a bulldozer to turn up a grass field to keep the fire from spreading onto the grass and moving on to the other buildings in the area. Winds sent thick black smoke over 4 causing a lot of delays. The smoke could be seen for miles. The three elements we look for when dealing with fighting fires is the heat, how hot are the temperatures, the winds, how strong are they and also the humidity. Right now were at 24 of humidity in the pittsburgh area. We are expecting those winds to continue with possibly gusts upwards of 20 miles an hour. That could help spread that fire. But also think about the smoke blowing in that direction. Were talking about air quality concerns here. As far as temperatures, we dont see much relief. Were at about 92 degrees in the pittsburgh area. We will notice a drop into the 80 by 8 00. Overnight we dont get much relief.
