Cllr Philip Whitehead, Leader of Wiltshire Council, has now urged for caution. This evening, he said: “We have seen a significant rise in COVID-19 cases so we all have to keep playing our part and support each other as much as possible. From 00.01 on Saturday, 26 December our neighbouring areas will be in the following Tiers: “Tier 3; Swindon, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire “Tier 4: West Berkshire “It is therefore vital that the people of Wiltshire stay local and shop local within Wiltshire in order to protect our local population.” The council has encouraged people to visit www.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-health-coronavirus for further information. ....
Fuel poverty affects people across Wiltshire More than a million pounds will be dispersed across Wiltshire this winter to help ensure people are kept safe, well and warm. The Government’s £170 million national COVID Winter Grant Scheme was made available this month to support people with the cost of food, energy, water bills and other essentials. Wiltshire Council was awarded £1,107,932.98 and will be supporting charities such as the Wiltshire Community Foundation. Cllr Philip Whitehead, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: “Winter can be a tough time for some people, even more so after the events of this year, so we welcome this extra support. ....
Shop Local - Support Wiltshire Wiltshire Council is urging residents to shop local and support the county during the Covid-19 pandemic. The local authority has created a range of resources and assets to provide support and guidance to businesses during the current Covid-19 restrictions and to encourage residents to shop locally. A collection of place-specific Shop Local posters and graphics are available that cover towns across Wiltshire, to help encourage people to shop locally and safely. The council have made these available on its website, for businesses and residents to download and share online and display in shop windows. It is also encouraging people to take to social media to support local shops and high streets. ....

It comes after the chief executive officer of the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Paddy Bradley - who are contributing £1.3m - told Paddy Bradley said: The money had to be spent by March 2021, and as Wiltshire Council said the scheme would be indefinitely suspended , the SWLEP board had to take a view on what to do with the money. We took the view that this meant the scheme would not be returning before March, and therefore the money needed to be reallocated. ....
GLOUCESTERSHIRE and Wiltshire will stay in the Tier 2 ‘high’ category over Christmas as nearby areas in the south and east of England face tougher restrictions. The counties will see no change in the guidelines over the next two weeks while many counties a short distance away will be placed in the highest tier because of rising infection rates. This means that the existing restrictions remain in place. These include: People must not socialise with anyone they do not live with or who is not in their support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place. ....
