Police in Westhoughton on Saturday, February 20 after the stabbing the night before COUNCILLORS hope police will carry on clamping down on crime in Westhoughton after a dispersal order was carried out following a stabbing in the town centre. Police were called to Church Street on Friday, February 19 at around 9.15pm to reports of a disturbance and a large group of people fighting. Two 17-year-old boys were assaulted by a group of around six people. One of them managed to flee the scene but the second was attacked and stabbed. He was taken to hospital and suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. ....
BOLTON West MP Chris Green and Cllr Anna-Marie Watters are calling on Bolton Council to address traffic concerns in Daisy Hill. A Temporary Road Closure notice for Leigh Road, Westhoughton has been published for a period of approximately 12 months. The Government has invested £2.5m to repair the bridge at Daisy Hill Station, with the council planning to divert all traffic via Wearish Lane. Local residents have aired concerns about this plan with their local MP and Cllr Watters who are working together to get clarity on traffic proposals from Bolton Council. BOLTON’S controlling Conservative group suffered two huge blows today as two of their councillors quit the party and Liberal Democrats terminated a working agreement with the administration. The Tories, a minority group in the council chamber but who control the authority through a working arrangement with other parties, have now lost that relationship with the borough’s seven Liberal Democrat members. The news comes as two Conservative members, Cllr Beverley Fletcher, who represents Breightmet and Cllr Diane Parkinson, who was elected for the Hulton ward, quit the party saying that they’ didn’t feel the council have stood up to the government enough to support and protect Bolton’. ....
