WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson says he sincerely hopes Claremont Killer Bradley Edwards will “never be released” for the sake of victims, families and friends and the safety of the community.
It comes after Justice Stephen Hall on Wednesday gave Mr Edwards two life sentences for the murders of Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon.
“Justice Hall has jailed Bradley Edwards for a minimum of 40 years in prison, that means that Mr Edwards will not be eligible for parole until he is 88 years of age,” Mr Dawson said.

Criminal barrister Linda Black says the Claremont serial killings really did “strike fear” into the hearts of everyone in Perth at the time they emerged.
Her comments come after Justice Stephen Hall gave Claremont Killer Bradley Edwards two life sentences for the murders of Ciara Glennon and Jane Rimmer.
Mr Edwards will spend a minimum of 40 years in prison.
“I certainly remember not catching taxis anymore because the rumor at the time was that it was a taxi driver that was doing this,” Ms Black told Sky News host Catherine McGregor.

Investigative Journalist Steve Pennells says the case of Claremont Killer Bradley Edwards has been “embedded into the DNA of Perth”, and no sentence for the killer would have satisfied the public.
Justice Stephen Hall on Wednesday gave Mr Edwards two life sentences for the murders of Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon; Mr Edwards will spend a minimum of 40 years behind bars.
“This is a case that’s gripped WA like no other one,” Mr Pennells told Sky News.
“A sign of that was this morning at court, I understand at 4.30am there were people queuing up – members of the public – and some of them hadn’t even been born when the murders happened.”

After hundreds of witnesses, thousands of exhibits, Bradley Robert Edwards will be sentenced for the murders of Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon.
The two women disappeared after separate nights out in Claremont between January 1996 and March 1997, as did 18-year-old Sarah Spears whose body has never been found.
