and washington state. today the d.c. council will hold a hearing on a bill introduced by tommy wells calling for the decriminalization of marijuana. kristin fisher is live outside the wilson building with a preview of the hearing. good morning, kristin. reporter: good morning. just to be clear, we re talking about decriminalization here, not full legalization, two very different things. what this bill would do is it would decriminalize possession of small amounts of recreational marijuana in d.c. by small ams we re talking about by small amounts, we re talking about less than an ounce of pot. right now what would happen? if you re caught with that amount of pot in d.c. it s a miss demeanor offense. first time offender faces up to ix months in prison and a six months in prison and a $1,000 fine. but if this were passed, the final would only be $100. supporters say it s vital for the city s youth, especially those who live in ward 8 where the hearing will be held later
