City Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal and other senior officers on Friday paid floral tributes to the portrait of a head constable S. Kamalanathan, who succumbed to COVID-19 recently.
Kamalanathan joined police service in 1999 and was serving as a head constable with the Motor Vehicle unit of Armed Reserve, Pudupet. He died without responding to the treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Tuesday.
At Rajarathinam stadium, police officers and other personnel observed a two-minute silence as mark of respect to the deceased.

A 26-year-old doctor of a private clinic and a pharmacist were caught by personnel of the Pallikaranai police station while they were selling the drug Remdesivir illegally.
On the instructions of City Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, personnel of all police districts have intensified vigil on the illegal sale of life-saving drugs on the black market. On Friday, the police arrested eight persons, including a young doctor and others, in Tambaram, Vepery and ICF. Remdesivir vials were seized from them.
Continuing the crackdown, personnel of the Pallikaranai police station and officials of the Civil Supplies CID, Kancheepuram unit, mounted surveillance on Friday and caught two persons who were selling the vials for high prices near a ‘Makkal Marunthagam’ in the Medavakkam bus stand. So far 13, police personnel have died due to the coronavirus and related illnesses
As many as 258 police personnel, who contracted COVID-19, are undergoing treatment at hospitals or are under isolation, the Chennai police have said.
Since the pandemic, 3,609 personnel had contracted the virus and fallen ill and 3,338 of them were cured and discharged from hospitals. So far, 13 police personnel died of COVID-19 and related illnesses during the first wave and second wave. Seven of them succumbed at hospitals while six died soon after being discharged from hospitals. ....
