Date Time Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award returns for 2021 The Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award – Australia’s longest-running and most prestigious printmaking award – returns in 2021, showcasing works of remarkable breadth and poignancy from emerging, mid-career and cross disciplinary visual artists. After a year’s hiatus due to COVID, the 45th FAC Print Award has attracted 262 entries from across the country. Among the 51 finalists are a diverse selection of traditional printmaking, artist books and unconventional multi-media works. FAC Print Award Coordinator Emma Buswell said many of the entries probed the impact of the pandemic and the fault lines of contemporary society it exposed. ....
Nominations are open for the City of Fremantle’s Sealin Garlett Community Leadership Award. The award honours the late Reverend Sealin Garlett, who was an outstanding contributor towards reconciliation both to the Nyoongar community and non-Aboriginal community of Perth. The City of Fremantle created the award in collaboration with the Walyalup Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group to celebrate the achievements of a community member who has demonstrated outstanding contributions in reconciliation and community leadership. To be eligible for the Sealin Garlett Award, the person nominated must be of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent; connected to the City of Fremantle by volunteering, residing, working or studying within the City; and have demonstrated achievements in community leadership and reconciliation. People cannot nominate themselves. ....
Date Time Heart of Beaconsfield masterplan formally adopted After almost five years of planning and extensive community consultation, a masterplan laying out the collective vision for future development in the Heart of Beaconsfield has been formally adopted by Fremantle Council. The Heart of Beaconsfield project was led by the City of Fremantle in cooperation with the Department of Communities and other partners to coordinate the redevelopment of the area around the Davis Park precinct, Lefroy Road quarry and the former South Metropolitan TAFE site. After a draft of the masterplan was approved for a final round of consultation in November last year, the final version was formally adopted by Fremantle Council last week. ....
