Manteca may switch to district council elections
When 2022 rolls around you may not be able to vote to re-elect Jose Nuño to the Manteca City Council should he decide to seek a second term if you live south of the 120 Bypass.
It’s because there is a chance the council may pull the trigger on switching to four council districts and an at-large mayor by then instead of having all council members elected citywide.
Interim City Manager Lisa Blackmon informed council members funding for such an effort is being included in the budget being prepared for the fiscal year startng July 1. ....

Part of the solution may be Pallet Houses. They are 8-foot by 8-foot aluminum structures first deployed as temporary emergency shelter after the Katrina disaster in New Orleans. ....

The Manteca City Council on Tuesday is expected to finalize the $390,000 purchase of the county owned building at 124 Sycamore Avenue and the adjoining parking lot.
Manteca City government is getting back to its roots.
The City Council is expected to authorize purchasing the building housing the former San Joaquin Public Health Department clinic at 124 Sycamore Avenue and the adjoining 20 stall parking lot in downtown Manteca when they meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. during a Zoom meeting. ....

The Manteca Fire Department battalion chief is currently the acting fire chief following the resignation of Kyle Shipherd. City Manager Miranda Lutzow has picked Marques to serve as the interim fire chief starting Feb. 1.

There will be no Manteca moratorium on new tentative subdivision maps.
But that doesn’t mean the objectives that a pause on new plans for even more housing beyond the 6,000 or so living units already approved or in the approval process but not yet built won’t be addressed to some degree.
“It just so happens all of the planets have lined up so it can be done with the existing administration and council,” Cantu said of tackling a number of vexing growth-related problems. “There is political will for it now.” ....
