Las Cruces-raised dancer returns to film festival commission

LAS CRUCES – Dallas-based Dark Circles Contemporary Dance set up residence in Las Cruces last week filming a performance at White Sands National Park and area racquetball courts for a New York City-based festival. DCCD Founder and Artistic Director Joshua Peugh is originally from Las Cruces and grew up dancing at Michele’s Dance Academy which has been a part of the Las Cruces community for 42 years. Now an award-winning choreographer, Peugh was commissioned by DANCE NOW NYC to create a made-for-film dance for their 25th anniversary season. The organization produces several programs, but one is a dance festival held each September at Joe’s Pub in New York City – a restaurant with a small stage, part of The Public Theater. Peugh has been commissioned to create work for this program previously.
