Stolen Hydro Ottawa van slams into concrete barrier, flips on its side at University of Ottawa campus


 
OTTAWA
Ottawa police say the driver is being treated for injuries after a cube van slammed into concrete road barriers at the University of Ottawa and flipped on its side at the start of the Monday afternoon rush hour.
Police were called to the single vehicle crash in the area of Waller and Nicholas streets at 2:45 p.m. The driver of the van fled the scene after the crash.
Witnesses say the Hydro Ottawa van was going at least 100 km/h when it travelled through the intersection and into a concrete barrier. 
Photos show the cube van on its side near the University of Ottawa s buildings. A concrete barrier blocking traffic was damaged, with pieces of concrete spread across the road. ....

An Ottawa restaurateur suggests it will take three months for business to get back to normal at Ottawa restaurants following 16 months of COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.
In the meantime, Stephen Beckta is urging people to have a bit of patience with waiters, waitresses, hostesses, chefs and restaurant staff when they go out for dinner.
Ottawa and Ontario entered Step 3 of the province s COVID-19 reopening plan on Friday, allowing indoor dining to resume and lifting restrictions on the number of people sitting at a table indoors and on patios. The only restrictions for restaurants is physical distancing measures in place between tables, along with sanitation measures and mandatory face masks. ....

Ottawa is not receiving its fair share of COVID-19 vaccine doses, mayor says

Mayor Jim Watson says the city of Ottawa is still not getting its fair share of COVID-19 vaccine doses from the Ontario government, as city staff scramble to secure more doses to accommodate an accelerated second dose timeline.
We have frustration with the province because they continuously lower the age limits, but they don t give us a corresponding increase in doses so it creates this level of frustration, said Watson in an interview on CTV News at Six with Christina Succi.
Starting Monday, Ottawa residents 70 and older, along with residents who received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine before April 18, will be able to book an earlier second dose appointment. ....
