The Royal Academy of Art (KABK) the Hague Design Lectorate is pleased to announce the latest title in a series that centres research methods and how they are interpreted and wielded by creative practitioners at KABK, the Royal Conservatoire (KC) the Hague, and beyond.
About 50 community members gathered outside the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History on a sunny Saturday morning to honor the legacy of lighthouse keeper, naturalist, activist and collector, Laura Hecox, whose donated collection of about 2,000 found artifacts and specimens became the foundation for the museum in the early 20th century.
Hundreds of fungiphiles from around Santa Cruz County and the Bay Area gathered like gregarious clusters of mushrooms at the London Nelson Community Center Saturday to listen to talks from renowned mycologists, learn more about local mushrooms and admire the hundreds of fruiting bodies on display.
After a pandemic-related hiatus, the Santa Cruz Fungus Fair will return to the London Nelson Community Center and will once again transform the space into a recreated woodland habitat, which will be filled with hundreds of local mushrooms, from the red and white fly agaric to golden chantarelles, black trumpets and everything in between.
"Today’s column has been prompted by the return of the Fungus Fair, organized by the Fungus Federation of Santa Cruz," writes Tom Karwin. "This event, scheduled for Jan. 12-14, will be the 50th offering of this richly educational event. "
