Brewers sign LHP Wade LeBlanc, INF Logan Forsythe Field Level Media 05 May 2021, 03:19 GMT+10 The Milwaukee Brewers signed a pair of veterans to minor league contracts Tuesday, as left-hander Wade LeBlanc and infielder Logan Forsythe will serve as insurance policies for the major league club. Both players will be assigned to Triple-A Nashville, which begins its season Tuesday at Toledo. Also signed to a minor league deal by the Brewers on Tuesday was catcher Christian Kelley, formerly of the Pittsburgh Pirates system. LeBlanc, 36, is a veteran of 13 major league seasons who appeared in just 12 combined games over the last two seasons for the Baltimore Orioles. He is 46-48 lifetime with a 4.59 ERA over 246 appearances (121 starts) for eight teams, making his debut with the San Diego Padres in 2008. ....

Free agent Christian Bethancourt was signed to a Minor League contract by the Pirates on Saturday. Bethancourt last played in the Major Leagues in 2017, when he played eight games for the Padres. Overall, he’s hit .222/.252/.316 with 20 doubles and eight homers in 161 games. Bethancourt was a Top 100 prospect in the Braves organization, as he was last ranked No. 82 in 2014. His 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame gives him some power potential, which he flashed in 2018 with 20 homers at Triple-A Colorado Springs, but the 29-year-old’s high evaluations as a prospect were largely centered on his excellent defensive games. ....

The soft-tossing southpaw logged 29 frames with the Birds and was clobbered for 27 runs on 38 hits and nine walks with 19 strikeouts. That said, LeBlanc has a pretty lengthy track record at the big league level and was particularly effective from 2014-18, when he tallied 321 2/3 innings of 3.92 ERA ball spread across stints with the Angels, Yankees, Pirates and Mariners. He notched a career-high 162 innings with the 2018 Mariners and turned in a very solid 3.72 ERA in that time. ....
