Focus on the loss of the justice and her enduring legacy. Jedediah overnight, hundreds gathered at the steps of the Supreme Court to mourn Justice Ginsburg. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has ordered flags to fly at halfstaff at the u. S. Capitol. Shannon bream has more on her remarkable life and the legacy she leaves behind. I, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, do solemnly swear. She might have seemed small in stature as the second woman to be nominated to the u. S. Supreme court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a trailblazer for womens rights and a champion for civil liberties. Ginsburg was born Ruth Joan Bader on march 15th, 1933. In a working class neighborho ....
Opinions on cases ranges from immigration to abortion, she was a hero to millions of americans and not only was she an enormously popular figure in the legal world, but she ended up becoming a popular figure in the Popular Culture as well. There were childrens books, a feature film, and documentaries about her storied career. She was indeed a larger than life figure. Given how poll laterized things are these days in washington its probably hard for a lot of you to fathom that one of her best friends was Justice Scalia. They are written with the unaffected grace of precision. Her voice in court and in our Conference Room was soft but when she spoke, people listened. I mentioned at the outset that ruths passing weighed most heavily on her family and that is true. But the court was her family too. This building was her home too. Of course she will live on in what she did to improve the law and the lives of all of us. And yet still, ruth is gone and we grieve. The only other speaker this morning, rabbi lauren holtzbaugh, notably a woman, whose husband is a former ginsburg law clerk. To be able to see beyond the world you are in, to imagine that something can be different, that is the job of a prophet. As Justice Ginsburg said, and i quote, think b ....
