Milwaukee FPC names next acting police chief
Jeffrey Norman, who has been with MPD since 1996, will take over for retiring Acting Chief Michael Brunson.
MILWAUKEE - It remains unknown who will serve as the next permanent Milwaukee police chief, but the city s Fire and Police Commission (FPC) did approve the department s next interim leader on Thursday night, Dec. 17 current Assistant Chief Jeffrey Norman.
Acting Chief Michael Brunson, a 25-year veteran of the force, will retire on Tuesday.
Commissioners thanked Brunson for his service and welcomed his short-term successor on Thursday all the while remaining gridlocked on their vote for the next permanent chief.

The commission adopted a new Use of Force SOP Thursday evening that reflects many of the aspects of the Eight Can’t Wait police practice reform campaign. The SOP bans chokeholds, institutes an “I Can’t Breathe” practice, restricts use of gas and outlines de-escalation practices.

The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission voted 3-3 again Thursday night, Dec. 10 for the next Milwaukee police chief.
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission voted 3-3 again Thursday night, Dec. 10 for the next Milwaukee police chief.
The FPC last Thursday, Dec. 3 decided to defer the final vote in the police chief search until Dec. 10. Malik Aziz and Hoyt Mahaley two of the commission s three finalists each received three votes at that time, while a third candidate, Chris Davis, did not receive a vote.
