Second supect arrested in Cheyenne Johnson murder

Johnson was reported missing last week and was last seen on April 29 near Cottageville. Deputies said they identified Michael Smith as a suspect the next day after receiving a tip about an overheard conversation concerning the murder of Sunshine, which was Johnson s nickname. Earlier this month and prior to Johnson s murder, Michael Smith had been released from jail on parole.
Johnsons body was recovered from a deepwater well on Monday afternoon and identified through tattoos. Additional confirmation will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Law enforcement noted Michael Smith said he shot Johnson in the back of the head and dumped her body in the well. ....

Police: Second suspect behind Jackson County woman's murder | News, Sports, Jobs

CHARLESTON A new development has come forward in the case involving the murder of Jackson County resident Cheyenne Johnson.
After a witness was interviewed, it was discovered Virginia Marie Smith, 29, 1244 Britton Ridge Road, Charleston, shot and killed Johnson last week, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
As previously reported Michael Wayne Smith, 41, same address, admitted to killing Johnson and putting her body in a well but according to Chief Deputy Greg Young of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Virginia was the one who shot Johnson.
“He was complicit in the murder and caused other injuries. He wasn’t telling the whole truth. It wasn’t him, it was Virginia,” Young said. ....
