STEUBENVILLE Just about the time city council was adopting a resolution Tuesday designating May 15 as Peace Officer Memorial Day in Steubenville, crews were busy in front of the city building removing the blue line that had been painted in the street two years ago.
“I knew it had to come off,” 5th Ward Councilman Bob Villamagna, who retired from the city police department in 2002, said, referencing a complaint filed after the line was painted by a motorist who claimed the blue paint had caused his Tesla to veer. WINTERSVILLE Two inmates walked away from the Eastern Ohio Correction Center Monday.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said Curtis Glauser, 6869 State Route 800, Uhrichsville, and Bryan Bassett, 230 Wood St., Sistersville, WV, jumped a fence in the recreation yard and fled into the woods. The men were wearing black pants and camouflage shirts.
Glauser had been sentenced in Tuscarawas County for a probation violation, while a judge in Monroe County had sentenced Basset to EOCC for attempted failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.
Steubenville’s new K9 officer, Puma, and his handler, Sgt. Rob Cook, tracked the pair north to State Route 646, deputies said. ....
