It’s summer and in Chicago, that means it’s festival season. The city’s street festival scene is legendary but was nonexistent last year due to pandemic-induced shutdowns. Now with Chicagoans hungrier than ever for summer food and festivities, two signature Latino festivals are set to stage their comebacks.
Alex Garcia, co-chair of Fiesta del Sol, says news of the festival’s return for its 49th year has elicited an overwhelmingly positive response in its home community of Pilsen.

Chicago festival season is stretching into October this year. The organizers of the Spring Awakening Music Festival announced Friday the electronic music event is slated for Oct. 2-3 at Addams/Medill Park in the Near West Side community.
Martin Garrix, Excision, Diplo, Galantis and RL Grime b2b Baauer top the lineup for what is being billed as the “Autumn Equinox” edition of the festival. LiveXLive’s React Presents promises more than 70 artists performing across four stages; new stage production; expanded interactive and immersive art installations; and carnival rides.
