Country. and i think blood quantum is something that was imposed upon us by the united states government. my tribe is still blood quantum, but i think that we have to be fighting for our status in this country and people are trying to take away our children, take away tribal sovereignty, and using this issue of blood quantum, i m just really curious, kim, where you stand on all this. well, i tried, we don t have a blood quantum requirement. and so, we have, as a result, citizens who are full blood, like my parents, and you have citizens that who are not. my mom told me long ago, when i was a kid, do not judge a book by its cover. why? because she is great headed today, but she has reddish hair, hazel eye, full blood cherokee, cherokee first language speaker. she said 20 want to be an indian born school, she would get teased because he looked white and then when they would go into town by bus, she would be a dirty little indian. but you know, the scary thing they tried to terminate ....

Tribal nation because more and more, is just really showing people that we aren t a monolith. we have such unique cultures and language, and, you know, histories. the schools you are just talking about, nearly 90% do not teach about us past 19 hundreds. so, it s literally the american public can t even really think about us in a contemporary context. a textbook picture of what a native american looks like and that s not how it is today. that s true. i think also, sometimes there is this duality. i grew up in a household where my parents are cherokee first language speakers, where there is great pride in your culture, and your heritage. and then in the public school system, where high school counselor is not telling me how to get the college because, she told me one day, indians drop out of college. we have come a long way and in a lot of ways, because more is known about us, but there s also steps backwards. public school systems teachers are not allowed to teach about the histor ....
