Bid to repair the grave of 1920s Chelsea and Manchester United legend Harold Halse, which is in Walton-on-the-Naze
FOOTBALL fans are hoping to restore the gravestone of a famous Manchester United and Chelsea player from the 1910s who is buried in Essex.
The Chelsea Graves Society has been researching the final resting places of ex-players from the club – and hopes to restore those which need some care.
They discovered the grave of Harold James Halse, who made 96 appearances for the club between 1913 and 1921, at Walton-on-the-Naze Cemetery.
Halse was born in Leytonstone, London, in 1886 and went on to play for teams including Manchester United, Aston Villa and Southend United. ....

Former Chelsea goalie's final resting place found in Westwood


A SEARCH for the final resting place in west Wiltshire of former Chelsea FC and England goalkeeper Vic Woodley has ended in success.
Following an appeal in the Wiltshire Times, the Chelsea Graves Society has learned that Mr Woodley is buried in an unmarked plot at Westwood Cemetery near Bradford on Avon.
Mr Woodley died aged 68 in Bradford on Avon in October 1978. He was a former landlord of the town s Barge Inn.
He played in goal for Chelsea Football Club from 1931-1945, and also for the England national team, Derby County FC and Bath City FC during his career.
Andrew Rowley, of Chelsea Graves Society, said: Due to your newspaper article we have found Vic s final resting place in Westwood Cemetery. ....
