DANVILLE â The response rate for fire and rescue agencies in Pittsylvania County went up in fiscal year 2021, despite a rise in EMS calls. County volunteer agencies increased rates of response to calls such as fires and medical emergencies by 14% overall, bringing the response rate among departments up to 89%, according to figures from the county. Officials credit increased spending toward fire departments from the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, as well as oversight and guidance from the Fire and Rescue Commission and help from the countyâs Public Safety Department. âThe Fire and Rescue Commission has helped develop new rules, regulations, and policies that guide all county departments and ensure quality service to our citizens, all while embodying and showcasing our motto: âOne Service, One Team,ââ county spokesperson Caleb Ayers said. ....
CHATHAM, Va. â Chatham Rescue Squad has finally been granted a well-deserved upgrade. Exactly one year ago, Chatham Rescue Squad s fleet ran a 2005 ambulance and responded to 20 percent of its calls. Today, the agency responds to more than 80 percent of its calls and can boast a brand-new, state-of-the-art ambulance. The new ambulance is a Ford F-550, the majority of which was purchased by Pittsylvania County with Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding. It was the second of four county ambulances bought with this fund, the first being awarded to Mt. Hermon. It s ours to use for the life of the truck, Chatham Rescue Squad Cpt. Noah Robbins said, as long as we re fulfilling our contract, which is 70 percent of our calls being answered. It is replacing an old unit, which was 12 years old. The county is going to sell that one. ....
