contain the fire. hundreds are evacuating as the fire continues to spread. the plume of smoke can be seen blowing into nevada. thu thousands of firefighters are woorking the line. we have a look at what it means for crews. reporter: when thousands of homes are threatened by a massive wildfire and the whole town of mariposa is under evacuation orders, help is needed. dozens of firefighters from santa clara fire agencies answered the call and headed to the fire outside of yosemite. they face a stiffer challenge. you re talking about large stands of dead trees that will never come back. big timber field source. reporter: 48 firefighters and ten engines from santa clara fire, san jose, mountain view, santa clara, morgan hill make up the three strike teams. the firefighters staying behind are working extra hard during fire season. we send 40 out. that leaves 40 spots at home that have to be filled. lots of time it s filled with overtime. people are working extra days.
