Monterey County could move into the Yellow Tier next Wednesday. A recent drop in the county’s case rate puts it on track to enter the less restrictive tier in the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. But all of the metrics used to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in communities must remain stable or drop. A move into the Yellow Tier would mean restaurants and gyms can expand indoor operations to 50% and bars could open indoors at 25% capacity. We will find out whether the county moves next Tuesday. Santa Cruz County s COVID-19 case rate missed the mark for the Yellow Tier again this week, which means the soonest it could be eligible is May 19. ....

Nipomo man pleads guilty to firing projectiles at vehicles along Monterey Co. highways

The man who fired projectiles at cars along Monterey County highways between 2019 and 2020 will serve time in state prison after pleading guilty to dozens of charges.
The plea entered in Monterey County Superior Court Thursday to 30 counts of assault with a deadly weapon by Charles Lafferty, 54, means he will be sentenced to 15 years in state prison, according to NBC affiliate KSBW-TV. Another 33 counts against him were then dropped by prosecutors.
Lafferty was reportedly facing 70 years behind bars for firing projectiles at nine different vehicles driving on Highway 101 and Highway 156 near Prundale between Nov. 2019 and Jan. 2020, according to CHP investigators. ....

Using Marbles And Slingshot Lands Nipomo Man In Prison


A Nipomo man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to 30 counts of assault. 54-year-old Charles Lafferty was accused of using a slingshot and marbles to fire at motorists in Monterey county. CHP investigators say Lafferty was connected to at least 70 attacks in Monterey and San Benito counties between February 2019 and January of last year. According to the Tribune, he’s due in court on June 29th when he’ll be sentenced to 15 years in state prison. ....
