The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that Chandrayaan-3 s Vikram lander is serving as a location marker near the lunar south pole. The US space agency NASA s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) detected signals reflected by the Laser Retroreflector Array (LRA) on the lander using the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA).
Pragyan is currently in sleep mode on the lunar surface and could wake up if its electronic circuits have not been damaged due to the extreme weather. The temperature on the lunar surface drops to nearly -200 degree Celsius.
Chandrayaan-3 landing: The scientist told Chinese-language newspaper Science Times that the landing site, at 69 degrees south latitude, is not near the south pole.
