Dighton poll: Should gay pride flag fly at Town Hall?

DIGHTON Here’s your chance to weigh in on the controversial proposal to fly the gay pride flag at Town Hall.
Selectmen Chair Brett Zografos, who supports flying the flag year-round, said it all started when the town received a hate-filled homophobic email in January. That sparked him to consider the show of town-wide support for the LGBTQ community, he said.
And Selectman candidate Jenn Duczkowski has also taken a public stance in favor of flying the flag year-round as a way to show “the welcoming nature of the community” though not necessarily at Town Hall.
But other residents have voiced opposition to flying the flag at all, including Carrie-Anne Millette, who told the Gazette she believes the American flag represents everyone. ....

Dighton: Proposal would fly gay pride flag at town hall just in June

DIGHTON A plan to resolve the controversy over whether the gay pride flag should fly at Town Hall year-round remains in limbo.
Selectmen took no action this week in response to a recommendation the flag should fly at Town Hall only during national Gay Pride Month, in June.
Ken Pacheco, who is both a selectman and a member of the town s Human Rights Committee, announced the Human Rights Committee s recommendation for a June Pride flag display at the March 10 Selectmen s meeting.
But the selectmen took no immediate vote.
Selectmen Chair Brett Zografos, who has expressed support for flying a gay pride flag at Town Hall year-round, explained it wasn t an action item on the agenda and there are other, higher priorities the town must tend to first. ....

It depends on the town s ability to weigh the pros and cons of committing to what some are calling a matter of promoting basic human rights, but others say takes that goal a little too far.
Selectmen decided at their Jan. 25 meeting to send the idea to the town s Human Rights Committee for recommendations, not only on whether flying the flag on town property would be a good idea but also for a flag policy to regulate such proposals in the future.
Selectmen Chair Brett Zografos said it all started when the town received a hate-filled homophobic email a couple of weeks ago damning homosexuality as against God. ....
