Officials say they are looking for ways to ease costs, which are being driven upward by debt repayment on a sewer project and the rising price of sewage treatment.
The station, built in 1970 and not updated since 1998, pumps all of Winslow's untreated sewage in a single pipe beneath the Kennebec River to a treatment plant in Waterville. It sustained major damage during last year's floods.
Crews are working along China Road to install larger drainage pipes and conduct other work to alleviate the flooding that has occurred for years at the intersection of China Road and Bay Street.
