The Lok Sabha has passed the Delhi Special Police (Amendment) Bill 2021 and Central Vigilance Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2021, that seek to extend the tenure of Director of CBI and ED upto 5 years.
The opposition protested the government's move to extend the tenures of the directors of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) up to a maximum of five years from the present two years.
Opposing the introduction of the two Bills, Congress member Shashi Tharoor said the move to extend the tenures of the directors was in flagrant disregard of the Supreme Court observations.
