Hes the director of global democracies migration and the research center. Remind our viewers how large of a voting bloc latinos made up in 2016. How they voted and what are the numbers as we head into november 2020. 2016 latino supported Hillary Clinton over donald trump. However, donald trump won almost 30 of the latino vote. In 2016, about 12 million hispanics voted. What is interesting is that that was less than half of the potential vote the latinos could have had. The turnout rate was only 40 . By comparison for whites for example, the turnout rate was almost like two thirds. Latinos have traditionally voted at rates that are lower with anothers. And the pew Hispanic Center is actually part of a broader Larger Center called the Pew Research Center. We do Public Opinion surveys, but we also do a lot of look at the demographics of the hispanic community. And one of our signature products actually is, how many unauthorized immigrants are there in the country. But our point is to provide facts. What do we know about the latino population in the us and how are they changing the us and how is the us changing them . Hinojosa so, results of the 2010 census. Were now talking about latinos being more than 50 million . Thats correct, 50. 5 million were counted in the 50 states plus the district of columbia. Im going to miss that relationship and working on the senate floor, but i will be in iowa. Ill be working again with the Harkin Institute at the university. Ill be spending a lot of time on disability policy and advancing the cause of people with disabilities in some way, shape, or form i dont know exactly house, but in some way, in that way and i hope i just want to say this to my friend. I hope that at some time, since this is a nonpartisan institute, we have a great board of directors in fact, the former chair of the Iowan Republican Party is on the board of the institute we want to keep it nonpartisan.
