Evergreen Catholic School Division (ECSD) was not surprised by the province’s decision to return to at-home learning.
Beginning this week, all Kindergarten to Grade 12 classes in Alberta will once again be taught from home in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in schools. The decision was announced last week when Premier Jason Kenney updated the province on his government’s latest series of stronger public health measures designed to “stop the spike.”

STAR will not pilot new draft curriculum

Over the course of last month, STAR Catholic School Division conducted an in-depth analysis of the Government of Alberta’s draft K-6 curriculum. This included a comprehensive review of the curriculum by committees of teachers from each grade level, as well as surveys of both teachers and families.
Of the K-6 teachers surveyed, 98% said they would not be interested in piloting the draft curriculum, with most respondents indicating that a lack of energy due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as concerns with the draft curriculum, were contributing factors in their decision. Of the parents surveyed, 93% indicated they would not be in support of the Division participating in the pilot program. ....

The STAR Catholic School Division is taking time to review the new draft K-6 curriculum before deciding whether to pilot.
In a letter sent on April 12, Superintendent Charlie Bouchard informed parents and guardians that administration was undertaking a review process with teachers across all grade levels from within the division. Once the review process is complete at the end of April, all teachers will have the opportunity to complete a survey indicating whether they are interested in piloting the new curriculum.
