How it Happened

TinCaps pitchers on injury list; touted prospect promoted to Fort Wayne
DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette
The TinCaps welcomed a highly-ranked prospect to their roster this afternoon, but also put a pair of key pitchers on the injured list. Here s a breakdown of the trio of changes to Fort Wayne s roster before it completed its series with West Michigan.
Gabe Mosser on the Injured List: The 25-year-old right-hander is 3-5 with a pedestrian 4.20 ERA, but has been very good lately, posting a 2-1 mark with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in his five starts since June 23, two of which came against the Great Lakes Loons, the best offensive team in the High-A Central East Division. Mosser started Thursday and struggled for the first time in a while, surrendering eight hits and four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings. He ll likely be replaced in the rotation by the newly-arrived prospect from Low-A Lake Elsinore.

In his most recent outing, however, he gave up a home run, his first since joining the team, raising his ERA with the TinCaps to 2.79. He has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen, a place Fort Wayne has struggled to find reliability, but he ll be out of commission for a while. In his absence, hard-throwing right-hander Carter Loewen could resume the closer duties. Loewen was the team s ninth-inning g

Early homers propel TinCaps
JOSH PATTERSON | For The Journal Gazette
FORT WAYNE – While fans attending Saturday’s High-A Central contest at Parkview Field were treated to postgame fireworks, the Fort Wayne TinCaps provided some early explosions of their own, riding a two-run home run in each of the first two innings before holding on for a 5-4 victory over the Lake County Captains.
“The way we’ve been playing, I think it’s huge,” TinCaps manager Anthony Contreras said. “We want to score early, it gives us a bit of a cushion. It’s extremely important to gain a little confidence.”
