Creativity flourishes in the throes of COVID-19

When the COVID-19 pandemic spurred one project and thwarted another, notices of them now surfacing came to light within days of each other in our newly minted 2023.

Christopher Pitts Christopher Pitts sat in a hotel room one night when he moved to Indianapolis in 2017. He remembers reading an article on the history of Indiana Avenue. He learned about the communities, their significance, and the music. It was a history he didn’t know much about. Four years later he is a staple on the Indy jazz scene hoping to contribute, “meaningful, thoughtful music that uplifts and connects with people in the same tradition that has been done for years,” he says.   True to his word, as a featured artist for this year’s Art & Soul, his trio, including frequent collaborators Nick Tucker (bass) and Carrington Clinton (drums), is performing songs by Indianapolis composers and innovators, Carl Perkins and Buddy Montgomery, along with original compositions.

After that, his parents didn t see him leave his room for a while. Art & Soul: Clint Breeze and the Groove Quartet performs ahead of Jazz Kitchen appearance

Today they graced Indy Style with a performance of their song, “W-9.” Their next live performance is March 27th at the Jazz Kitchen. Here’s more on Clint Breeze and Art & Soul. Clint Breeze is the artistic persona of Indianapolis-based drummer and Hip Hop producer, Carrington Clinton. The Groove is an all-star lineup of Indy-based Jazz musicians featuring Nick Tucker (bass), Jared Thompson (saxophone), Joel Tucker (guitar), Christopher Pitts (piano), Zachary Finnegan (trumpet) frontman Pernell From Pike (vocalist, emcee) and led by drummer and beatmaker Clint Breeze.
