Campaign to Build Wildlife Crossing at 101 Freeway Raises $18 Million

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The fundraising campaign to create a wildlife crossing over the 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills has reached the $18 million mark, putting the groundbreaking within sight, organizers announced today.
The total raised by the National Wildlife Federation s #SaveLACougars campaign includes a recent $1.4 million gift from a private donor.
“The incredible support of people from around the world has allowed us to advance this project from a visionary idea to an impending reality. This past fall, we released new design visualizations, Caltrans will have the blueprints for the crossing completed this summer, and if fundraising remains strong, we will break ground in November, said Beth Pratt, California regional executive director for the National Wildlife Federation and leader of the campaign. ....

Another Dallas Developer is Indicted For Bribing City Council Members


Sherman Roberts, president of affordable housing developer City Wide Community Development Corp., is accused in federal court of paying bribes to two former Dallas City Council members in exchange for their votes to support his projects. 
U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Erin Nealy Cox announced his indictment Thursday after an investigation led by the FBI’s Dallas Field Office. The indictment charges him with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery regarding federally funded programs and one count of bribery concerning a local government receiving federal benefits.

DALLAS - Another Dallas developer is charged with bribing city council members.
Federal prosecutors say Sherman Roberts paid Carolyn Davis and Dwaine Caraway to steer council votes on affordable housing projects in 2015.
It is the second housing corruption case involving the two former council members.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is determined to restore Dallas’ trust in its city government by systematically dismantling the ecosystems that allowed this sort of corruption, said U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox. Southern Dallas developer Sherman Roberts has been federally indicted for attempting to bribe two former city council members over a five-year period in return for votes that landed a low-income housing development nearly $2 million in loans and grants.
Roberts, the CEO of the low-income housing development company City Wide Community Development Corp., is charged with two federal bribery counts, one for a project receiving federal funds and another for a local government receiving federal funds. He has not entered a plea and could not be reached for comment. ....

Dallas developer accused of offering bribes to former Dallas City Council members

A Dallas developer has been indicted on bribery charges for his dealings with two former Dallas City Council members who, prosecutors claim, supported his tax-credit housing projects in exchange for money and promises of future payments.
Sherman Roberts, president and chief executive officer of City Wide Community Development Corporation, is charged with two crimes: conspiracy to commit bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, and bribery concerning a local government receiving federal benefits.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in federal prison. 
His attorney, Douglas Greene, of Arlington, said Roberts will be making his initial appearance in federal court at 10 a.m. Friday in Dallas.   ....
