The blazing summer heat is threatening the health and safety of millions of americans from coasttocoast. In the eastern half of the country more than 141 million are under a heat warning or advisory. In the far west, thousands have been forced to flee wildfires fed by the heat. The areas in dark red are where the heat and humidity combine to make it feel as if its in the 90s or triple digits. Its called the heat index and it was over 100 in new york, philadelphia, washington, baltimore, and chicago. On the west coast, a wildfire 100 miles east of los angeles is threatening more than 4,000 houses and other structures. At least six homes have been destroyed and 6,000 people have been forced to leave the area. Bill whitaker is there.
