A science teacher who leads a hermetic lifestyle in the Scottish Highlands reveals his plans to open a forest caravan park 20ft off the ground in the trees in tonight s New Lives In the Wild.
Jake Williams, 70, lives in an isolated plot of land in a forest in the Eastern Highlands of Scotland which he bought in the 1980s in the hope of creating a hippie commune.
Forty years on, his commune dream having never come to fruition, Jake lives alone in the rundown cottage, which is powered by solar panels, a windmill and some diesel.
On the programme, airing at 9pm on Channel 5, he reveals that he works as a science teacher at the nearby school, and takes part in music festivals during the summer, joking he is a fake hermit.
Doctor Who (BBC1, 6.45pm) IT’S been nine months since we last saw Jodie Whittaker as everybody’s favourite Time Lord. The sci-fi classic was a Christmas Day fixture for several years, but has now found a home at New Year instead, and this festive edition certainly kicks off 2021 in style by reintroducing the heroine’s most feared foe – the Daleks. Instead, the trio must find a way to battle the legion of evil themselves – which is far from easy. And to spice things up a bit, John Barrowman is back as Captain Jack.

One challenge about making cutting-edge cars is that the regulations that constrain them and the technology to build them struggle to keep up with our imaginations. But that’s not a problem when you’re creating vehicles intended to exist entirely within a computer game, even an incredibly realistic one such as Gran Turismo 5.
Red Bull Racing’s resident design genius, Adrian Newey, was given the freedom to create his ultimate car for the game, and the result was the X2010. In effect an F1-style car designed without any concessions to a rulebook, the single-seater draws power from a 1479bhp twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, making it capable of 0-60mph in 1.4sec and a top speed of 280mph. A Brabham BT46-style rear fan helps to produce extra downforce, and with a weight of just 545kg and extensive aerodynamics, cornering forces exceed 8g.
