Merry Christmas from Capps. The Adventist Church had their Christmas service last Saturday. We attended the second Christmas program at Capps Full Gospel in the morning and the evening program at Restoration Life Fellowship in Batavia last Sunday night. I ended up going to the community choir presentation of Handel s Messiah by myself Monday night as Jennifer was tired out. It was great and a bit different in the new location with a new conductor. We re looking forward to some quiet days at home before Christmas. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire and all that stuff. Blessings, Doug

Greetings from Capps. I stopped by an estate sale on Capps last weekend that was at the home of now-deceased JC and Maxine Flippo, longtime Capps residents. Their daughters, Patricia, Connie and Janet provided me with a wealth of information about their family, Capps historical tidbits and also fond memories of Flora Worthington and the little store in Capps. It seems that each local family had a little ticket book which she kept in a box that she used to keep their "tab" until they would come in and pay. The store building also housed the Post Office for many years, how can we get that started back up? In other news, their was a horrible car wreck at Capps and Creel Road early Sunday morning. 2 people were airlifted from the Capps Full Gospel parking lot. Their were rumors of a large, underage drinking event in the area but not sure if the 2 were related. An older woman stopped at the roadblock and claimed she had been trying to get back to Branson from Harrison since 3 pm o

Greetings from Capps. We trust that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. Ours was small and simple but we re grateful for the many blessings we have. It was also great to receive the much needed 1.5 inches of rain last weekend. My reporting about the stalled demolition work at Capps Full Gospel was premature as they had the entire building scraped and carted away by the end of the day on Saturday. Capps Batavia Fire Department had our monthly training meeting on Monday. We have several outstanding young firefighters who have joined the ranks over the last year or so and it looks like one of them is going to be our firefighter of the year, stand by for news. Recognizing people who go above and beyond is important to us and having several who are deserving is a good problem. I saw that Matt Odom, one of our Assistant Chiefs, has decided to run for a JP seat on the Quorum Court. We wish him luck in that venture. The annual Capps-Batavia Community Thanksgiving

Greetings from Capps. Stuart Nance, the realtor who has the 190 acres listed on Creel Road, dropped by last Thursday. It adjoins our property to the south for about 200 yards. If I had an extra 1.2 million laying around, I would like to have it for a hunting property, but alas. Capps Batavia Fire responded to one brush fire and one vehicle fire last week, different days but same address. We sometimes get more calls in the winter with dry grasses and leaves so please use caution when burning. The demolition work at Capps Full Gospel seems like it stalled last week, I m anxious to see what the new building will look like. Jim Mysinger got back home from the hospital after a heart procedure. Glad he s feeling better, his wife Evelyn is one of my Cone relatives. It s funny that my stepmother and aunt were both named Evelyn as well. I m in the home stretch now in EMT training. I finished 2 days on the ambulance and now get to do 2 shifts at the NARMC emergency room, then finals and such. It

Greetings from Capps. We ve been enjoying the great fall color and mild temperatures, but alas, all good things must come to an end. Last Saturday began the cold, rainy season, prompting a flurry of activity. Animal enclosures weatherproofed, equipment stored and stocked up on hot drinks and reading material. A week ago Thursday, just after I sent in last week s article, Capps Batavia Fire responded to a structure fire on Cedar Road in Batavia. The travel trailer was a total loss but we were able to keep the fire from spreading to 2 nearby homes. Work is progressing on the fellowship hall at Capps Full Gospel Church. The old metal roof came off last week, I think I may have even spotted Pastor Eddie Reed up there with a power tool. I spent most of the week packing up all the leftover products at my old store, Diversified Lawn and Garden, on Capps. The building is still for sale after the first deal fell through. We sold our lil Baby Nubian doeling last week to a couple in Mt. Judea, I
