On June 26, The Biden Administration released the Persistent Poverty Initiative, an initiative coordinated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that awards $50 million to reduce inequities in the social determinants of health related to cancer and cancer prevention. The goal of the initiative is to alleviate the cumulative effects of persistent poverty on cancer outcomes in parts of the country where, for the past 30 years, 20% or more of the population has lived below the federal poverty line.
