International nonprofit Good Pitch Local hosts event in Philadelphia, connecting creatives with community resources


Shannon Thomas, program manager for Doc Society, told PhillyVoice that the pitches go both ways. Content creators in Philadelphia can pitch their story idea to community activists and organizations for financial support, resources and more, while organizations themselves can present their cause for local producers to help tell their own story.
The cheesy kind of Good Pitch tagline is Helping the film go further Thomas said. Basically, some films aren t even finished, but they are coming here to find community partners … and work with other organizations that might need to show a movie to get people s heartstrings going when they are talking about their issue. ....

Stacy Lira was nearly a year into her unofficial job as an unemployment-claim detective when things went from bad to worse.
The 46-year-old mother of three, who lost her job managing an Inland Empire convenience store last spring, was rushed to the hospital in mid-February. She was struggling to breathe after testing positive for COVID-19. But Lira was adamant that she couldn’t leave home without one thing: She needed her carefully filed unemployment records so she could keep calling from the hospital about the nearly $20,000 she says the state owes her family. ....
