Town’s six new scholars for the 2010/11 season were inducted into the academy at Portman Road on Friday afternoon. The six youngsters include local lads Callum Bennett and Joe Whight, as well as a Norwegian, an Irishman, a Northern Irishman and a Welshman.
Town s U18s comfortably beat Birmingham City 4-0 at Playford Road on Saturday afternoon. Three of the Blues four goals came from defenders released this week, centre-half Josh Meekings (pictured) netting twice and full-back Rory McKeown one, while first-year scholar Callum Bennett, also a defender, scored the other.
Blues boss Paul Jewell says one or two younger members of his squad could get their chance before the end of the season, but that they’ll have to earn that opportunity just like anyone else.
