necessary. when you take what trey gowdy had to say, which was very significant, with the president s tone tweet, the president calling out mueller by name for the first time in a tweet in which he talks about a witch hunt, it is clear that he is taking this to a new level. if he can t get rid of mueller, is the goal to discredit mueller enough, that this long-term republican, nominated by republicans, would somehow have the results of his inquiry questioned by a decent merge of the american voting population? absolutely, i think that s a major part of the president s strategy here, is if he believes that he can get his core voters, who have proven to be extremely eloy loyal to trump to see whatever outcome of this investigation, with whatever outcome comes from this investigation as either fraudulent or politically bia d biased, then he believes that he can skate free. i think that it s a strategy that he has seen work in other instances. he certainly goes after the news media and
calendar year. but we see the investigation is going forward in full force and is not losing any steam. we also see through the president s tweets that that s getting under his skin. now, this is the first time, i believe, that he s called out mueller by name. and remember, that s against the advice of his lawyers, who have said, don t attack the special counsel personally. remember, they re trying to negotiate how and when trump sits down for an interview, and if, with mueller, who s trying to get that face-to-face meeting while the lawyers are exploring things like written questions or alternate kinds of interviews. this is a precarious moment and you can see his frustration coming out. for sure. alexi, do you think the president is just trying to undermine mueller, the investigation there, or can we say, with the interpretation here, that he s actually laying groundwork to fire the special counsel? well, as we saw in the tweet, he s now, for the first time, calling out mueller b
as far back as 2011. joining me right now, former prosecutor, wendy murphy, and criminal defense attorney, john bur burris. welcome, good to see you both. wendy, i ll begin with you. the washington post has some new details about just how far back michael cohen s efforts have gone. still, here we are today, talking about stormy. will the trump team ever be able to squash these allegations? well, it s a really hard question to answer. i think it depends, frankly, on where the case lands. you know, right now, we really have a battle of three different courts involved in making that ultimate decision about whether the nondisclosure agreement will be upheld or avoided. if it s voided, she can speak and that means trump didn t prevail. that he didn t keep her silent. and if it s struck down, then we ll hear lots of details. and perhaps see videos and texts and god knows what else about the president and his sexual relationship with stormy
investigation is that it is the one that is digging the deepest and that is probably why you see the president keep self-inflicting here, you know, in trying to potentially cover things up. we. don t know. but the actions that he s taking certainly aren t taking him. it just makes us think that perhaps, potentially, he is very nervous about it. but one thing that i would say there, too, is that, of course, investigations, the congressional investigations are partisan. trey gowdy, as we mentioned earlier, he weaponized congressional investigations during the obama administration, wasting time, public resources on the benghazi investigation. so let s not now kind of hold him up, as some hero. he has been a big part of the problem. but, elona, ultimately with the president going after on twitter skpointi ingand pointin bunch of democrats and hardened hillary supporters, is he laying the groundwork so whatever comes out of the investigation, ultimately, he can point to that and say, this
time before the president gets the answers that he wants rather, that mueller gets the answers he wants from the president? i do think an interview is imminent. how can it not be at this point? it s been president trump s entire team going in for these interviews. it might be a couple more months, but i would imagine some time this summer or early fall, we will see an interview with the president. okay. regarding mccabe s firing, many guests with whom i spoke yesterday said that his reputation within the fbi was stellar. listen to this. andrew mccabe, very distinguished kroo distinguished career. i know he has the support of the rank and file at the fbi and this is no way he should be treated. an individual who spent a year fighting russian organized crime. i have the utmost respect for him, he s honest, he s got integrity. very, very, very solid professional. what are you hearing, sarah? are people coming to mccabe s defense? or do you think they are waiting a bit fu
