Cardinals activate Yadier Molina from 10-day IL Field Level Media 09 May 2021, 02:55 GMT+10 The St. Louis Cardinals activated star catcher Yadier Molina from the 10-day injured list ahead of Saturday s home game against the Colorado Rockies. Molina missed the past 11 games with a strained tendon in his right foot. The nine-time All-Star originally injured the foot on April 23 against the Cincinnati Reds. He returned three days later against the Philadelphia Phillies and was hitless in three at-bats and apparently aggravated the injury. Molina, 38, was off to strong start by batting .323 with five homers, five doubles and 14 RBIs in 19 games. Catcher Ali Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move, though he ll remain on the taxi squad.

Mets salvage doubleheader split with Cardinals

Mets salvage doubleheader split with Cardinals Field Level Media 06 May 2021, 13:40 GMT+10 Tomas Nido, Kevin Pillar and Jonathan Villar drove in two runs each to power the visiting New York Mets past the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday. The result ended the Cardinals winning streak, which reached six games after St. Louis took the first game of the twin bill 4-1. In Game 2, Mets manager Luis Rojas deployed reliever Miguel Castro for one scoreless inning as his opener before turning to Jordan Yamamoto for 2 2/3 innings. Yamamoto (1-0) earned the victory by allowing one run on four hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Mets vs Cardinals recap: Splitting in St Louis

Game One In the first game, Marcus Stroman took the hill for the Mets. He was greeted rudely in the bottom of the first inning when Paul Goldschmidt took him deep to put the Cardinals up 1-0. In the third inning, Stroman gave up three straight singles to Dylan Carlson, Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado, scoring another run. Two runs shouldn’t have been an insurmountable challenge for the Mets, but the offense was cold as ice early in the evening. The Mets got their chance in the fourth inning against Cardinals’ starter Kwang Hyun Kim, but so many bizarre things happened in that inning that it seems miraculous that the inning ever ended, let alone that the Mets scratched out a run.
