Buffalo City Metro deputy mayor hopeful Kayise Tom was sworn in as a councillor on Tuesday and indicated she was ready to serve should the party pick her. The Amathole district municipality’s (ADM) top political leadership troika, which includes the mayor, council speaker and chief whip, face the axe over the controversial decision to reappoint Thandekile Mnyimba as municipal manager.
While pressure mounts on the Amathole district municipality council to rescind its resolution to have Dr Thandekile Mnyimba reappointed as municipal manager, a group of 131 employees have turned to the court in a bid to have the reappointment declared invalid and set aside. The workers have enlisted the services of lawyer Wesley Pretorius, and have since filed court papers in a bid to block Mnyimba’s reappointment, on grounds that he is allegedly not fit for the R2m a year job.
