Buffalo City Metro deputy mayor hopeful Kayise Tom was sworn in as a councillor on Tuesday and indicated she was ready to serve should the party pick her. It appears Tom, the ANC’s Dr WB Rubusana deputy regional chair, is a step closer to landing the job because the region has submitted her name as a preferred candidate to the provincial leadership.
ANC provincial deputy chair Mlungisi Mvoko has spoken against factionalism which he said has caused huge problems for the ruling party ahead of its elective conferences.
Just days before their scheduled weekend elective conference, the Oscar Mabuyane-aligned faction in the Dr WB Rubusana ANC region ditched Lunga Nqam in favour of BCM’s deputy mayor Princess Faku, who is now touted as the next ANC regional chair in the metro. Nqam had been bandied around as the face of their campaign.
Luthuli House has been urged to intervene in connection with "serious manipulation" and “blatant stealing” of ANC branches in the Dr WB Rubusana region.
The ANC regional executive committee (REC) in Buffalo City Metro’s Dr WB Rubusana region was dissolved by the provincial task team (PTT) and replaced with an interim structure, the regional task team (RTT), which will help steer the region towards its elective conference next month. Most of those who served in the region’s outgoing leadership structure, elected during a conference in East London in October 2018, were retained in the new RTT, except for a few who had been forced by ANC policy.
