Gov. Gavin Newsomannounced that anyone living in Quartile 1 or 2 of the Healthy Places Index could get a vaccine, regardless of age or occupation, at the provider s discretion. California announced 40% of its coronavirus vaccine supply will be allocated for ZIP codes deemed most vulnerable to the pandemic.
The doses will be spread out among 400 ZIP codes with about 8 million people eligible for shots, said Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state s health and human services secretary. The areas are considered most vulnerable based on metrics such as household income, education level, housing status and access to transportation. All those factors combined determine a ZIP code s score on the Healthy Places Index, or its Vaccine Equity Metric. ....

Santa Clara's Levi's Stadium could become mass COVID-19 vaccination center


Disneyland, which remains closed to visitors, is set to host the first of five massive vaccination sites in Orange County.
Santa Clara County has already set up clinics at the fairgrounds expo hall, as well as other locations throughout the county, with plans to double capacity by next week to nearly 7,000 people a day. That number doesn t include vaccinations being performed by private healthcare providers such as Kaiser and Sutter Health. Public health experts say it ll be important for all entities to work together to ensure a timely delivery.

Coronavirus SoCal: Support team to be sent to LA County as hospitals struggle with COVID-19 surge, Newsom announces


Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday the state has dispatched a support team to Los Angeles County to help with managing overflow conditions at hospitals as COVID-19 continues to run rampant in the area.
He says 96% of hospitals in the county were diverting emergency patients at some point over the weekend due to overcrowding in emergency rooms, adding hospitals on average were on diversion for 16 hours a day unable to find room for new emergency patients.
Los Angeles County officials say hospitals are reaching the point where there may not be available room or staffing for those diverted ambulances to go. Some hospitals are putting patients in conference rooms or gift shops when there s no other space available. ....
