HENDERSON, Ky. A critical staffing shortage at the Henderson County jail prompted magistrates to raise starting salaries and promises increases to veteran employees in the near future. During Tuesday s meeting of the Henderson County Fiscal Court, Jailer Amy Brady presented a plan to increase the base salary to around $15 and then a bump to $16 after a person has been employed for six months. Brady, who had discussed the hiring crisis at a recent budget workshop, said the plan also included raises for seasoned staffers, some of whom she says have been working 12-hour shifts for 11 and 12 days straight to cover the needs of the facility. ....

As county magistrates take a hard look at the budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year it appears they ll be keeping their promise to sheriff s deputies. During Thursday night s workshop the first time county government officials have met in person in more than a year Henderson County Sheriff s Lt. Col. David Crafton presented the department s budget, which included an increase of $113,228 toward deputy raises. Sheriff Ed Brady and Crafton approached the Henderson County Fiscal Court roughly six months ago citing a critical shortage in deputies due to the inability to offer competitive pay. ....
