Burning of dry leaves in compost pits constructed in Leisure Valley, Sarabha Nagar, near MC zone D office has invited criticism from city residents. The residents have questioned civic officials on the condition of the compost pits meant to dispose off green waste properly and not used to burn dry leaves, causing pollution.
According to the Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2023 (clean air survey) conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Chandigarh – which is considered very liveable – failed to find a place in top 10 ranks, even as Delhi stood at 9th place with a score of 177. Mumbai too had 10th rank with a score of 176.3, while Chandigarh scored 158.
